Basement Waterproofing Case Studies: Repairing Wet Basement in Mount Vernon, WA

Challenge

Jennifer wanted to create a more usable space in her basement in Mount Vernon, WA. Her existing system could not handle the heavy amounts of water coming in during heavy rain, so her basement ended up flooding. She contacted the experts at Rainy Day to come out for a free inspection and estimate.

Once System Design Specialist, Jean-Paul Holcomb, and Jennifer hashed out a plan for repairing her wet basement, we sent out our Production team for a two-day project. Foreman, David Nush, and our guys got right to work.

Solution

For this project, we installed a two-stage waterproofing system in order to stop the water from coming in through the wall-floor joint. This custom waterproofing system is used to accommodate an abnormal slab. In this case, Jennifer’s footing was poured on top of the slab, whereas it is typically below it. Despite this issue, we were able to put in a flange-less WaterGuard drainage channel along with our FlowGuard to capture and direct water to the sump pump. To ensure the water is draining properly to the sump pump, we also put in a WaterGuard Port. The homeowners can check the port any time to monitor the water flow.

At the low spot of the basement, we installed our SuperSump Plus. This extremely efficient pump will provide Jennifer with peace of mind because it can handle high volumes of water with ease. Our SuperSump Plus consists of a single Zoeller M53 ⅓ HP Cast Iron Sump Pump placed in a TripleSafe basket. This grants Jennifer the ability to upgrade it easily down the road. If the water coming through gets to be too much, we can fit a secondary pump or battery backup pump in the basket.

On the outside of the home, we installed our LawnScape Outlet and IceGuard. LawnScape is dark green and low-profile, helping it camouflage in the grass where it can discharge water from the basement safely away from the home into back-fill areas. IceGuard prevents the line from freezing and thawing in the winter so that floods cannot easily occur.

Once finished with the project, Jennifer could now enjoy a completely dry-all-the-time basement and make the space much more usable.
