Nasty Crawl Space
Before we intervened, this crawl space presented a significant challenge. Standing water had accumulated, causing an unhealthy and potentially hazardous environment.
Falling Insulation
Compounding the moisture issues, the existing insulation was deteriorating and falling apart. This compromised its ability to properly insulate the home, resulting in high energy bills.
Crawl Space Rodents
In addition to the moisture problems, the crawl space had become a haven for rodents, who were nesting in the insulation.
Compromised Vapor Barrier
During heavy rains, water seeping into the crawl space could accumulate and compromise the vapor barrier. This is a major concern because the vapor barrier's purpose is to protect the home from moisture, including condensation. If water gets on top of the vapor barrier, it can damage the wood, insulation, and other crawl space components.
Overworked Sump Pump
Overwhelmed by the constant influx of water, the existing sump pump was struggling to keep up. The limited drainage system couldn't handle the high volume, and the pump itself wasn't powerful enough to effectively remove the water.
Installation Process
Early in the project, our crew began the transformation by removing all the old debris, deteriorating vapor barrier, and failing insulation from the crawl space. They then dug drainage trenches to effectively manage future water accumulation.
Sump Pump Installation
Here, we see the new SuperSump Plus pump in the process of being installed, ready to tackle the high water volume more effectively.
Vapor Barrier Installation
The transformation taking shape! Here, our crew began installing the CleanSpace vapor barrier to the crawl space walls. This thick and durable material is designed to be a permanent solution, lasting for the lifetime of the home and keeping moisture at bay.
Crawl Space After
Hard to believe that this is the same crawl space as before! The transformation is drastically different from where we began.
CleanSpace Encapsulation System
This crawl space is fully encapsulated using CleanSpace. By sealing the crawl space from the earth's moisture, we are able to prevent mold, moisture, and pests, while making the space usable and energy efficient.
Healthy Crawl Space
Reduced moisture and mold in the crawl space can also contribute to better air quality throughout the house.
SuperSump Plus Sump Pump
The newly installed sump pump system features an airtight basket designed to prevent clogging, accompanied by a new 1/3 HP Zoeller cast iron pump. Moreover, this sump pump is expandable, allowing for the addition of a secondary or battery backup system in the future.
Dry Crawl Space
Through thorough cleaning, improved drainage, a high-performance pump, and CleanSpace encapsulation, the crawl space is now sealed, dry, and contributes to a more comfortable and energy-efficient home for Robert and Anne.
