Basement Waterproofing Case Studies: Beautiful Basement Finishing in Bellingham, WA
Challenge
Bri and Drew H. of Bellingham, WA contacted Rainy Day because they were having problems with their basement flooding. The couple was fed up with water collecting on the floor and wanted to make the space usable and home sellable for the future. It was also important to them that the mold and musty odors be eliminated. Together, we hashed out a plan to transform their basement from a wet, smelly mess to a dry and finished space that the soon-to-be newlyweds could enjoy.
Solution
The project began with installing the TripleSafe sump pump system in the low spot of the basement. This three-in-one pump system provides full protection from water intrusion and can handle high volumes of water. It also has a built-in battery back-up with an alarm to notify the homeowners in the case of flooding. Water is discharged through an IceGuard and directed to our LawnScape Outlet in the yard discretely away from the home and backfill areas. A SaniDry dehumidifier is also installed to pull moisture out of the air and keeps the home’s humidity maintained to prevent mold growth.
Next, we installed a sub-floor drainage system around the perimeter of the basement to direct water to the TripleSafe. Damaged drywall was cut out and the bottom of the studs were removed. The concrete below it is broken out about 6” from the wall and down to the footing so we can install our WaterGuard. CleanSpace wall covering is installed and connected to the WaterGuard to ensure any wall leaks are directed into the drainage channel. The channel is then back filled with drain rock and fished with new concrete. Once the concrete is dry, the bottom plate of the wall is put back in and refastened to the studs.
With the waterproofing aspect of the project finished, the next step was completing the walls and flooring. It is vital to take the possibility of water, humidity, and flooding into consideration when finishing your basement. Our EverLast Finished Wall Restoration System is perfect for installation over our water control systems. These wall panels are made of inorganic material and are designed to prevent the growth of mold and mildew. For the rest of the walls we put in EverLast Wall Panels, transforming the basement into a fully insulated space. Our stylish Elite Plank flooring is laid, and then the walls and floors are finished with trim. The result is a beautiful and livable basement, protected from water for years to come.
