Crawl Space Repair Case Studies: Standing Water in Freeland Crawl Space
Challenge
Within a week of Barbara moving into her Freeland home, she contacted us to come out there to perform a free inspection and estimate. She was concerned about her crawl space because she knew that some of her foundation posts were rotted and there was standing water down there making matters worse. She was interested in a sump pump and a vapor barrier to help rid her crawl space of moisture problems and prevent more wood rot.
Solution
We installed drainage trenching along the interior perimeter of the foundation walls to capture ground water and direct it towards the sump pump. The TripleSafe Sump Pump we added into Barbara’s crawl space is equipped with three pumps, including the UltraSump, a battery back-up system that will automatically activate in the event of a power outage or other pump failure. The combination of pumps offers the homeowner the most effective and reliable protection against water intrusion. We installed a buried discharge line that directs all the captured water out of the discreet LawnSpace Outlet a safe distance away from the foundation of the home.
We then encapsulated Barbara’s crawl space with CleanSpace, a highly durable crawl space lining. More than three times thicker than traditional black poly vapor barriers, CleanSpace is tear proof and much more effective at reducing moisture vapor and humidity levels in a crawl space. CleanSpace Vent Covers and an EverLast Crawl Space door were added to complete the encapsulation. Both incorporate weather stripping for an airtight seal and are made from completely inorganic materials that will not rust or grow mold. Finally, we installed a SaniDry CX Dehumidifier to give Barbara ultimate control over the moisture levels in her crawl space.
