Sump Pumps Case Studies: Upgrading Sump Pump in Mount Vernon, WA
Challenge
Tag of Mount Vernon, WA, was continually having problems with his existing sump pump. The smaller pump would leave him hanging with standing water in his crawl space. He wanted to see what it would take to get a more proactive pump installed, so we sent Rainy Day’s Ed Upenieks out to the home to assess the situation.
Solution
To resolve Tag's concerns, we first removed all the debris from the crawl space. We then installed our interior crawl space drainage channel. The drainage channel consists of a shallow trench dug between 12-16 inches aways from the crawl space side of the exterior walls and footings. We tested the trenches to ensure water can flow to the low spot of the crawl space where the pump is placed. After testing, we lined the trench with filter fabric, laid the piping, and filled the trenches with clean drain rock.
Since Tag’s last sump could barely handle the load before, we upgraded his sump pump to our a ⅓ HP SuperSump Plus in a TripleSafe liner with an airtight lid and floor drain. Our SuperSump is an impressive pump with the capability of pumping up to 2,280 gallons of water per hour. The result is a crawl space free of standing water and improved peace of mind for the homeowner.
