Challenge

Friday Harbor is a quaint island town just a ferry away in San Juan County of northern Washington. Like many Washington homes, Michael’s Friday Harbor property was no stranger to the moisture that this area brings. He contacted Rainy Day to come out and do an overhaul because it was wet in some areas and dry in others. Moisture can lead to worse and more expensive problems such as flooding, mold growth, and foundation settling, so fixing it as soon as possible is best. Our team has been fixing wet, nasty crawl spaces for over 25 years. We have solutions to fix the problems permanently and stand by our people and products with guarantees. Jean-Paul, long time System Design Specialist at Rainy Day, designed a completely new waterproofing system for Michael’s farm residence.

Solution

As with most projects, the crew began implementing this plan with disposing of all debris in the crawlspace such as old fiberglass insulation, wood, and other organic materials. We then dig drainage trenches to lay down piping and prepare the low spot for the TripleSafe sump pump system. Trenches are tested for flooding and then the sump pump is put in place. TripleSafe is a three in one pump with battery backup and alarm system which can pump high volumes of water and kicks on in case of flooding. Next, we fill the trenches with drain rock. The entire crawlspace was encapsulated using CleanSpace, a patented 20mil thick multi-layer vapor barrier. The inorganic material used in CleanSpace is protective against water damage and seals the crawlspace from soil and moisture. We finally installed the SaniDry Sedona, an efficient dehumidifier that can help relieve the home of allergens in the air while lowering energy costs. It also prevents mold growth, plus it has a digital LCD panel, making control of the unit quite easy.
