Crawl Space Encapsulation in Bellingham, WA

This Bellingham home was frequently experiencing problems in the crawl space including water leaks and mold growth, which had led to decayed wood that needed to be replaced. Don and Kerry M., the homeowners, informed the system design specialist that this had been a recurring problem for 15 years and that they had replaced some of the wood already. They were looking for a more permanent solution to their wet crawl space troubles.

We added drainage trenching around the perimeter of the interior footing of the foundation walls to direct captured ground water to the lowest spot in the crawl space where we installed a SmartSump Pump. The SmartSump is equipped with a 1/3 hp cast iron Zoeller pump and a WaterWatch alarm that will sound anytime water reaches a point it shouldn’t. An UltraSump was added as well. The UltraSump Battery Back-up is an additional pump that will activate in the event of an initial pump failure, like in a power outage. We then encapsulated the crawl space with CleanSpace, a highly durable crawl space lining that significantly reduces moisture and humidity levels in the space. CleanSpace also has an antimicrobial agent in the lining that further protects against the growth of mold and mildew. A SaniDry CX Dehumidifier was added into the space to give the homeowner full control over the conditions of the space.
