Rainy Day Basement Systems Case Studies: Leaky Crawl Space in Bellingham
Challenge
Bob and Karen K. contacted Rainy Day Basement Systems after their 30-year crawl space drainage problems finally started to cause substantial damage to their Bellingham home. Their crawl space leaked water and the drainage system was insufficient leaving standing water throughout the space. The standing water was leading to mold growth in the crawl space as well as inside the home. Bob made frequent trips in and out of his crawl space and also noticed a lot of rodent activity. He ultimately wanted to gain more storage and to prevent mold and water seepage.
Solution
To help prevent water from reaching the crawl space walls, a Rainy Day installed a drainage trench along the exterior wall footing. The trench system leads the water to the SmartSump pump system equipped with a cast iron pump and airtight lid and floor drain. This type of sump pump also has the WaterWatch alarm system designed into its cover. This unique system sounds an alarm if it detects water leaking, it also alerts a pump failure for any reason. Their entire crawl space was lined with CleanSpace, a crawl space encapsulation system that keeps moisture out and helps prevent the growth of mold. Not only does Bob now have a plenty of room for storage, it’s completely clean and puddle free.
