Rainy Day Basement Systems Case Studies: SmartJacks Correct Settlement Problem in La Conner, WA Crawlspace
Challenge
Del and Rowena have a crawlspace with posts and beams that were experiencing significant settling. The crawlspace was mainly being used for storage, and the settlement was becoming a concern because they did not want the problem to worsen. Once they finished researching their options, they decided to get their free estimate from Rainy Day.
Solution
During the inspection, we discovered mold as well as pests under the home. To correct Del & Rowena’s problem of settling and mold for good, we implemented a new system to lift the home back into place and seal it. Several SmartJacks were installed, which made of durable, strong galvanized steel. They are also fully adjustable, so if soil or other changes occur down the road, the SmartJacks are able to maintain a stable structure. We sealed off the vents and encapsulated the crawlspace using our patented CleanSpace product, and wrapped all piers and pads. Since the couple enjoys using the space for storage, this system will help prevent critters from crawling in through openings and protect their stored belongings. The final touch was putting in the SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier, which will collect condensation and keep the humidity low in the crawlspace.
