Community Locals go Behind Bars to Fight Muscular Dystrophy

The Marysville jail roster is about to get longer as business leaders and communities join together to raise funds and awareness for this year’s Muscular Dystrophy Association Lock-Up. The event will be on August 25^th at the RAM Restaurant and Brewery from 11am to 1pm. ‘Jailbirds’ will spend an hour behind bars with their goal bail set at $2,000.

This fun and inspiring event raises funds that will help children and adults break free from the harm of muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and related muscle-debilitating diseases. The money will fund research for treatment and cures. It will support programs like MDA summer camp and therapy for families. It also offers those suffering from muscle-debilitating diseases the necessary care for them from the moment of diagnosis.

Among this year’s jailbirds include two employees from Rainy Day Basement Systems, a local crawl space, basement and foundation repair company based in Arlington. They were contacted by the MDA to participate and the two jumped on the opportunity. Marketing coordinator Chantele Machado said “It just sounded like a great way to get involved without having to run five miles.” Jessica Melanson, the appointment center manager, said “I’m really excited to participate in the event. It’s for a great cause and it sounds like it will be a lot of fun. Dedicating an hour of my time is the least I can do for a disease that effects an entire life.”
