Rainy Day Basement Systems Case Studies: Marysville Crawl Space with CleanSpace Encapsulation

Challenge

Devin and Yan C. contacted us through our website because they were interested in encapsulating their crawl space. The space was not leaking, but ground moisture is always a concern and they wanted to prevent any related damages like mold, mildew and wood rot under their home.

Solution

After completing a thorough inspection of their crawl space, our system design specialist suggested we replace their preexisting 6 mils. thick black vapor barrier. We replaced their inadequate vapor barrier with a much more durable crawl space lining called CleanSpace. The CleanSpace lining is 20 mils. thick, making it tear-proof and extremely effective at reducing moisture and humidity levels. The lining is anchored securely to the walls with fasteners, then caulked to the foundation walls creating a sealed barrier that won’t shift around. To complete the encapsulation, we capped the crawl space vents with CleanSpace vent covers. They are made from completely inorganic materials and won’t rust or support the growth of mold or mildew.

The crew then checked every nook and cranny for the smallest of air leaks and sealed them using caulking or a foam gun. Once the crawl space was completely sealed, we installed a SaniDry CX Dehumidifier to give the homeowners full control over the moisture and humidity levels. The SaniDry CX is completely automatic, meaning Devin nor Yan will ever have to get into their crawl space to turn it on or off or to empty the reservoir.  Finally, we updated the crawl space access way with the EverLast Crawl Space Access Well and EverLast Crawl Space Door. The two are also made of inorganic material and will give any crawl space entryway a much more aesthetically pleasing look.
